Good way to deliver barbed wire entanglements

I am looking for an approach that delivers a good looking and re-looking results without too much in the way of arts-and-craft skill.  very much for Great Patriotic War.  Any suggestions?

I used to wrap thin wire round a pencil to make the coils...for the box barbed wire then maybe 4 or more pins with wire or thread criss crossed around them
