Well Dave Fielder and I managed to kick off our Dux Bellorum campaign earlier in the week, and what a cracking game it was! Hopefully you will enjoy the AAR as much as we did the game:

I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

Dave tried to make it less linear and succeeded up to a point :D.

Looks like a great game. Looking linear because:

a) It's pre-Napoleonic, or so I've heard somewhere on the Forum.

b) Linear tactics were employed in the Dark Ages to keep the shieldwall together and to maximise the force of the charge, so pretty realistic I'd have said, especially as the game progresses the linear tactics tend to start falling apart until one side is completely shattered

Glad you like them chaps as it makes the effort worthwhile. I try to convey how the game went so that readers can follow the action as it were.

At GetAGrip: The rules can be had for around £6-7 on Amazon and add in two warbands from Pendraken, for around £10 each and you have a complete game for around £30. Not bad IMHO.

Great looking game, and great write-up, thanks for taking the time to post.  And I'm with Getagrip: I don't know anything about the period, but seeing great setups and games like this certainly makes me want to learn ;)
