Actually I'm busy painting 1/3000 WW1 ships tonight so not just propping up the bar!

Are any of those ships for our game on Saturday?  ;)

Peter managed to get all the ships that we needed for our hunt the Goeben game painted in time for last night  :)

I managed to cripple all the British Armoured Cruisers, 'proving' my name sake Troubridge correct not to engage.

Peter' was commanding the British light forces and had Dublin and two destroyers cripped. We did manage to sink the Breslau and slightly damaged the Goeben.

A good time had by all  :D

Now back to the point of this thread, the first batch of British are painting up very well and very quickly.  :)

There is plenty of detail to paint and the limited range of colours compared to AWI makes them much faster to paint.   :) :)

If this rate of progress continues, I should have them based by next weekend and hopefully make a start on the first batch of Germans  :) :) :)

Progress continues on the British. Hair & flesh highlights to do then touch ups tonight and they will be ready to wash tomorrow  :)

First batch Germans ready to be under coated on the weekend as soon as the British vacate the painting rods.

Not quite as much progress as I had hoped last night. Hair and flesh highlights finished but didn't get to do the touch ups.

I will do the few touch ups required tonight. I have again been very pleasantly surprised by the amount of detail on the figures and how easily they have painted up.  :) :)

Also started the prep of the artillery bases now that I know they will fit nicely on 50x50 bases.

Touch ups finished last night and found & painted a couple more bits of webbing on one of the cavalry poses  :)

Should get to wash them tonight

I'm very pleased with the rate of progress  :)

Got them all washed last night, artillery bases prep'ed and 2 German 77mm guns assembled ready to be undercoated over the weekend

I'm very glad I checked some photos before assembling those, a very strange looking gun shield.
I wonder what the protusions at the bottom of the front of the shield are for :-/

Not bad while also getting some documents witnessed by a JP & taking my wife out to dinner  ;)

The first batch of British are now painted  :D :D :D

Will hopefully get them based this weekend. Probably won't get varnished till next weekend, far too cold and dark to varnish outside after work.

Will make sure I get the first batch of Germans under coated tomorrow so I have something to paint next week.

Off to play some WWI naval today  :D :D :D

Paul showed me some pictures of the Brits he has finished - very nice.

The whole lot should be ready in time for Call To Arms next month, the annual convention put on by the Wellington Warlords here in Wellington.

Found this link http://dereksweetoys.com/2013/02/making-bocage-hedges-for-6mm/

so on making several metres of suitable hedges for the Arretez battlefield, painting buildings and yet more WW1 armoured cruisers!

paulr

Those hedges should help with the aesthetics of our game  ;)

Have been busy basing the British. I am not sure about the background colour I have used on the labels and am thinking about replacing them.

The plan is to use a khaki/brown background for the British and a Green/Grey for the Germans with the coloured boxes identifying which company the stand is in. I went with a light brown to try and tie in with the tone of the flock I am using but I think I have ended up making it stand out too much.

These still need a varnish so are a bit shiny but show the label colours, thoughts and comments welcome.

The cavalry look great, but I agree that the label colour is a bit brash. what about natural earth?
The artist formerly known as Dour Puritan!

paulr

It didn't look that brash when I put the labels on the plain bases ... strange how colours work, or in this case don't   :-\

So the British won't be varnished today  :( might as well wait for the new labels which will be printed on Monday or Tuesday on a colour laser printer  ;)

Will undercoat the first batch of Germans in another hour or so when it has warmed up a bit more...  :-w

In the meantime I will finish basing the British artillery  :)
