Dover Patrol

Has anybody here  played this old Gibson's Games classic? It's a very neat little tactical game indeed, though only nominally connected with naval warfare. Pick up a copy if you see one looking for a good home (I bought my first from Oxfam in the 80s for 50p).

Mind you, 50p wasn't a sum you spent lightly in the dark times of Thatchler's regime....

Long time ago. Seem to remember some free varieties - both sea and land themed, on the interweb.

Haven't played Dover Patrol but have played a few games of "L'Attaque" which is similar. Many years ago now.

Those games included a couple played with a set purportedly carved from fragments of trench planks carved by the owner's French grandfather in WW1. The French pieces were stained blue and the German ones were stained green. The "board" was a piece of cloth that might once conceivably have been horizon blue and was supposed to have been part of a jacket or coat.

No idea if the family story was true but it added a certain something to the games!
