M15 halftrack and size comparison to other makes

Just done a post on the M3 75mm GMC and the M15 (Pendraken) and M16 halftracks. I have also included a comparison of different manufacturers with some other models - all different versions but it gives a good idea how much the scale varies by manufacturer.

Quite a sobering comparison, Steve. However, as you say, the wargamer's eye is quite capable of rationalising such idiosyncrasies. I've been playing with 15mm figures that vary between Minifigs original strip midgets and Essex recent giants without any problem at all.

Thanks Steve, this sort of comparison is extremely useful. I mix my infantry but have to pick which vehicles can be used from different manufacturers. You mention Arrowhead are bigger than the plastics, I have found them pretty much the same but with the arrowhead not so tall.

The plastics all fit in well with each other size-wise. I wonder why we can't acheive the same with metal manufacturers.

My post on US tank company in May shows an Arrowhead Easy 8 against Takara Shermans, and the British Cromwell post in June shows Arrowhead Cromwells and some Gramodel variants.

I have found the very newest Arrowhead vehicles look bigger. I will do some more posts as I go along and will show comparisons as I have models from most manufacturers.

FSN - if only - by the time I came across Pendraken I have too much other stuff to start gain, so just mix and match as best I can

I appreciate that. I had the benefit of starting again in 10mm a few years ago and took to Pendraken as being THE manufacturer to buy from after examining the options. Range, quality and ease of use. They're also the friendliest bunch.

I also took note of the fact that Leon is much younger than I am and so is hopefully not likely to retire before I die. (I want to be buried at sea, weighed down by my lead mountain.)

I've been happily buying Pendraken & Pithead vehicles, and they look OK together, but I rarely have more than one or two of any make on the table at once (Chain of Command skirmish games). When I started my recent resurgeance of 10mm (I started on 6mm, had a brief fling with 2/3mm, then changed to 10mm...), I discovered a box full of Pendraken goodness from years ago, but mostly late war East Front, whereas I'm now more into Barbarossa & over Dunkirk way.

What did annoy me is a fair number of vehicles I THOUGHT were 10mm, but turn out to be 1/200 scale, and way too small...

Yes, I have a few Pithead vehicles, for types Pendraken don't do, and they fit quite seamlessly into the main body.

I also agree with Wulf about 1/200th. I used to think they were identical to 10mm - but, no, oh deary me, no!

Don't Minifigs market themselves as 12mm figures anyway? I suppose it's a bit like the difference between Pendraken and Kallistra.

The funny thing is, the "12mm" Minifig figures are often shorter (and always skinnier, which makes them look smaller..) than the various "10mm" manufacturers...

One really annoying thing - I bought some N Gauge 1930-looking vehicles suitable for placing around a 1940 france battlefield. I've been using various N Gauge bits for my 10mm buildings, etc. There is no way any of my BEF could get into these cars, they look tiny...

I hear your pain!! I bought some P&D Marsh cars, rated as N Gauge - 1/148 or 1/150, but they are definitely smaller than some N Scale (1/160) vehicles I've got. I ended up burying them partly in barricades. You have to be careful with model railway scenery, sometimes the scales are wonky.

I ended up using a rival manufacturer's staff cars to stand in for civilian vehicles.
