Continuing on my slow plod towards raising a couple of Dux Bellorum armies, here are a couple of shots of my Germanic foedarati shieldwalls that will bulk out my Romano-British infantry. Although my Romano-Brits will have an overall red colour scheme, I have made these guys blue to a) distinguish them as 'different' from their comrades, and b) in case I decide to do a fully fledged Saxon army in the future, they will provide me with a core.

Very nice!
What is the mounted figure in the back middle of the left hand element?

Eureka sorceress on a unicorn... She's wearing a nice feather cloak which I quite like. Obviously I de-horned the pony.

These are really impressive, how do you get the blonde hair looking so nice? Anytime I try to do it they end up looking like Simpsons characters. ..

I start with a pale yellow - Vallejo 'light yellow' in this case - and put a grubby brown wash over the top. Pretty simple, but I find it effective on 10mm and 6mm figures. I would only rarely highlight with the light yellow again after the wash.

Great work, IW. And using a fantasy figure in an historical unit is a new twist.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

I've got some Copplestone "horse tribe" fantasy figures as Alans in my Byzantine army, and their "city guard" as Franks (crusades, that is). A number of Pendraken's fantasy figures are renaissance-friendly too.
