When my kids were at infants school, one of the rather attractive teachers they had used to say to them when they could not find something   "Have you had a Mummy or a Daddy look?"

A 10mm figure? I can fail to spot things hundreds of times bigger

I can use a pot of paint, put it down on the painting table, use another colour and then fail to be able to find the cpot I just put down

I spent half an hour looking for a pin vise on the desk a good while ago.
It was right in front of me.....But I couldn't see it, as it was laying flat on the desk, unlike the other two vises (?) that were standing up.

Mind you....If you saw the state of my desk, you'd wonder how I could find anything ! at all, most of the time.
