Bought a couple of 30YW armies to bolster some of my fantasy armies and thought I'd check out the period.

Found "The Thirty Years War 1618 - 1648" by Samuel Rawson Gardiner.

He has a comfortable style and begins with the background (political, religious and geographical).  I'm about 30 pages in and, thus far, can highly recommend it
