My Aliens project

I thought some of you might like me to share some pictures of a project I have been working on using the Pendraken Sci-fi range.

About 6 years ago I had a crazy plan to create my own board game based on the Aliens series of films, it was one of those ideas that wouldn't go away. Eventually I took the plunge and decided to actually get on and do something about it. For various reasons I settled on the Pendraken sci-fi range for the miniatures and bought a load of them. After doing research on colour schemes and further planning I promptly put the miniatures in the lead pile and left them there for many years to gather dust.

Fast forward to a month ago - when I finally decided that I had procrastinated enough and it was time to crack on with things.

One of my initial hurdles was basing the miniatures. Because I wanted to use them for a board game I didn't want to element base them and it took me a while to find something suitable. I settled on tiddly winks which are cheap and pretty much the size and shape I was after. As a bonus the leftovers can be used for counters in the game itself. I added bits of aluminium mesh to the bases to make them look a little bit more sci-fi and to disguise the integral bases a bit.

Here's my initial haul of miniatures with some colour scheme testers thrown in.

One of the nice things with working at such a small scale is that the miniatures don't take long to paint up and it wan't long before I had some usable forces for play testing the game.

The Aliens.

The Colonial Marines

The Corporation Marines

At this point I ordered a few more miniatures and ended up with a fourth force for the game, some predators.

And of course the game also needs some helpless colonists.

And some unlucky colonists.

These three might look familiar - A civilian advisor, a corporate liaison and an artificial person.

I also have a walker but I've not decided what to do with it yet.

I'm still working on the rules set but here are some staged photos.

The tiles I have used are from Complex 77 and can be bought from here:-

All in all it has been great fun working on this project so far and the painting side of it has been completed in just over a month which is way quicker than I normally manage. Now I'm looking forward to finishing the rules and getting some games in.  :)

All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? It's another glorious day in the Corps. A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm: Every meal's a banquet. Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation's a parade! I love the Corps!
