Would appreciate some input on which scale of buildings to use and who you would recommend.

I am particularly interested in Italian style for use with 1859.

Thanks. I know some people do use 6mm with 10mm figures.

I assume you use 10mm. Any opinion on using 6mm?

Cheers

6mm (range 8 from Timecast) are just as lovely, you have the added advantage of more buildings per area, but I do like the 'bulk' of 10mm too.
It's really down to that most dangerous of things, individual choice!  :P

Some of the buildings in the Hovels 10mm European Range are also suitable.

I usually use 6mm buildings with 10mm figures. It just seems to work for me. For 1859 the best ranges are Timecast and Total Battle Miniatures. Their Italian hilltop village is to die for!

Do the following:
- determine the terrain scale you will use
- find some maps of actual battlefields and check the size of villages
- draw villages on a sheet of paper (in chosen scale)
- find the footprint size of buildings offered by Timecast (they will e-mail it to you) and cut it from the cardboard
- try to fit the buildings in villages, if you fit less than three, choose smaller scale buildings

I did like this and choose 6 mm.

BTW. I've also found Time Cast buildings great models. Some of them were reviewed on my blog, unfortunatelly 18th century only.

Timecast 6mm Italian range for me too, though I've also made a nifty statue for the village square from a Pendraken mounted general; dark brown undercoat, remorseless drybrush lots of turquoise (it takes nerve to persuade your brain that this is accurate, but your eyes will support you in the final vote), then touch up very sparingly with bronze on the more exposed bits.
Try it.
  Marble's easier, of course.

Damn! Damn! Damn! I've just looked at the Timecast website and I can see money evaporating.
