Here's my latest Dystopian Wars battle.

My Empire of the Blazing Sun (Japanese) took on the fearsome French air fleet.  It was all going so well...   Grin

Looks good our kid. One way to make the tiny flyers look better is either -

cut off the bases and mount on wire - very fiddly though.

or

buy the ones Brigade do for Land Ironclads - at least 3 types there. You can also use models from 1/1200th scale carriers - which retail at roughly 6-7

Very nice Luddite - I think you can claim a moral victory as your fleet is much more nicely painted  Wink Cool

 Cheesy  Cheers...hehe...

And the French fleet wasn't tournament legal whereas mine was....and at 800pts most DW players would flip their 'that's not fair' lids at facing a player fielding a Vauban.    Grin

OK chaps, so here's the Second Battle of Sarigan.

http://luddite1811.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/dystopian-wars-second-battle-of-sarigan.html

Once again I faced the might of the French navy, this time with slightly larger forces.

It was a very tense game whose outcome was in the balance every turn...

From the French?

2 free wings (10TF)
6 TFs from the surface carrier
9 TFs from the Vauban

25 TF which the Frech player deployed in 5 wings of 5.

I had 16TFs
2 free wings (10TF)
6 TFs from the flying carrier

Deployed in 1x4 and 4x3 wings

All the French were torpedo bombers.  The French 'combat launch' ability means he can cycle them through his carrier really quickly, so i deploy mine as fighters to try and shoot down as many torp bombers as possible.  Also don't forget to use your AA to try and destroy as many of these pesky TFs as possible!

I actually managed to neutralise his TFs fairly well, after their first torpedo run (largely ineffective) at least.

Thats not an allowable deployment, the wings launch from their respective carrier, means that the carrier can launch 2 wing made up of their 6 tiny flyers. Ok its a bit of a subtlety but it makes a huge difference to a battle.

We're fine with the way we play it.

The wording's ambiguous at best, but we play it that you may construct any legal wing formation from your available TFs.

Works pretty well.  We find that it means your TF fighters tend to be in slightly smaller groups but to maximise your firepower, the other forms like Torpedo bombers are best in 5s.
