Got some Schleswig-Holstein jagers over, so I decided to paint them as Mecklenburg jägers. The Mecklenburg jägers did use a similar uniform, but the leather shako dident have a back peack.

Excellent stuff, Flodin. Tell me, was the black, red and gold flag in use that early?

As I recall from my history of about 20 years ago it was first used in the 1848 revolution by students, but may have been used earlier as a plumein the army...
I'm off to research that now!  ;)

yup, I was right, very detailed wiki article. It was used by students and democrats from 1848 and occasionally as the state flag in Northern Germany until it's adoption by the Republic in 1919

As Mad Lemmey said, it was used in the 1848 revolution. Apparently did not the newly formed Schleswig-Holstein Army use any regimental flags/standards. But illustrations from the period shows the the German tricolour being used by the Schleswig-Holstein Army, so I decided to use the german flag.
