I think it was the Polish cavalry that fitted winter horse shoes to their mounts in Moscow in 1812, sharp spikes to grip the ice. This helped the significantly during the retreat

Dwarf army finished last night, just needs basing. Also two platoons of DAK anti-tank and a platoon if mortars done, well, almost, thanks to my two year old's throwing arm that's better than Steven Backley, one command team had 'escaped' into the garden, and I only found them yesterday...

Lizzies done, just need basing, Dwarfs need bases painted, painted a stand of Dark Elf XBows, three 1:3000 German destroyers base coated and inked, 5 stands of Samurai assembled.
