Very nice Michael, i have done similar on some colonial figs , just painting small areas, i am not a fan of dipping but then im never in a rush to get my figs on the gaming table.

Kev, I tried Army Painter dip mainly to put that one to rest

as I don't think it works as well with the bright uniforms of the 18th and 19th century in 10mm as in using different coloured inks where you specifically want them.

I agree that speed painting, in my case anyway, can simply lead to having to do the whole thing again. I prefer to spend time on trial figures first before rushing anything. The small areas you mention will probably with the projected 1809 multitudes get smaller and smaller as the will to paint the same figures over and over decreases while the will to get the figures on the table increases. But that won't be a bad thing.
