I imagine you then have some sort of zone of control or pinning rule when musket-armed units come near to one another?

I appear to have been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. I demand a French or Austrian rank! None of this British nonsense!  :D

I've had a pack of Leon's 5mm dice frames for a while now. I plan to design something slightly different, says this Oberstleutnant.

Hi Michael,

Keep up the good work. The site gets better and better.  :)

Just a note of caution on using dice as casualty recorders. Heed or ignore as you wish, but your line of thought with 10mm casualty recording is the same route I went down. I have however found a draw back with it during play. With the cut and thrust of the battle units are moved and dice are left behind. :o Also the indiscipline of players comes out and casualty dice are sometimes inadvertantly picked up and used for other game purposes.  :-\

I have resolved to partially solve this by using wounded markers, but there isn't any completly suitable figures available.

Cheers, Rob   :)  :)

Regarding dice as markers for casualties, we use this method a lot in our games and there are a few things that you can do to help keep the markers as markers, as with the right unit.

Use small dice (like Michael has in his photo) then everyone knows these are casualty markers, also most people don't like rolling these dice as they are so small.

Use dice frames - either on their own small bases, or better still attached directly to the base of multi based troops, or attached to the back of the movement tray. This has two benefits, keeping the dice from getting knocked over so you know the right value, and keeping the dice moving with the unit.

We have used casualty figures, and while these look good, they do have the problem of getting left behind when a unit is moved.

Nice dice. I think my dice fetish is a big part of why I'm a wargamer  ;D

Yes, a formed infantry unit's combat zone extends 200mm to its front and 30 degrees either side of its flanks in a sort of rhombus. Skirmishers aren't allowed in their parent unit's  combat zone and must drop off to the flanks when the zone nears formed enemy troops.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.
