Looks good, Michael, but where are the troops going to go?  :-\

Just by removing a tree base and substituting a fieldworks base or placing the troops where the tree base was. The islands are totally wooded but if defining the area is an issue the tree base can be replaced by a flat hex base for the figures to stand on while maintaining the outline of the area terrain.

Good work, as always, Michael. As Lemmey says, the attention to detail is remarkable.

Hi Michael - I have been enjoying your blog/well organised web page and will probably be heading down the same 1809 route (armies, not a fancy blog).

I would like to ask a painting question.

Many of the Austrians have a flower shaped gold pattern on the blue trousers (I am sure it has a name but I forget it).

How do you paint that ?

Thanks

John

Hi John,

Thanks for posting on the Pendraken Forum! And thanks for reading the Blog!

The Austrian knot (of Hungarian origin) I paint gold/bronze for the officers and dark yellow (to tone down the yellow to simulate the blank-and-yellow lace) for other ranks.

http://www.michaelscott.name/1809/1809blogpost48.htm

I basically paint a line with three dots at the end (in triangular formation). Then paint one (or more) smaller blue dot in the centre of the triangle of dots. If I have the time and inclination, I paint a blue line down the middle of the gold/yellow line – but rarely.

Way back when I trialed my first grenz infantryman, I painted the knot as yellow dots without finishing off with a blue central dot. I also had a go painting black-and-yellow lace on the shako but thought just dark yellow was just about fine.

My favourite yellow for blank-and-yellow lace is Foundry's Lemon Shade 1A. I should say that close-ups of the knots – especially with the shine of the paint – don't show up in the photos as they appear on the tabletop.

Cheers, Michael

Thanks Rob! Feedback welcome! I've just started another blog, if WW1 desert warfare is of interest.
