Hi folks,

Is anyone out there using these rules for WSS, if so can you tell me how you base them. The 18 figure battalions look ok in 28mm, but i think would look a bit sad in our chosen 10mm.

Greetings

I've got them and have some 6mm in strips which I'm using to test them with 12 figures per stand ie 36 figures + pikes per unit.  I think a 36 figure unit in 10mm would look right - though if I do it in 10mm it will be Nine Years War (ie League of Augsberg).

Regards

Thanks Edward,

What size bases are you going to use. Also how are you basing your cavalry and guns.
I am thinking about campaigning in Italy, austrians v french.

For LOA I've been basing on 3 x 30mm square bases. Two ranks of 4 figures on each with the middle base having a 3rd rank of pikes where required. You can see some pics here - it took some experimentation but in the end I was reasonably happy with the bases. For WSS you are probably doing without pikes, so you could maybe do 20mm deep bases. There's a few pics on my blog here ...

Wow, they look great goat major.
Certainly gives you a better idea seeing a photo of them in the flesh so to speak. So any pictures of cavalry, artillery and commanders!!!!!!!!!!! With base sizes too.

Wow ! !  Those are really nice figures. Both the painting and the sculpting.

And now more figures have been produced.  Not sure about horse and musket, not sure that anyone else in my group plays this era.

Yes, i did think that myself after i posted it, come on Leon you know what we want!!!!

But have you given any thought to base sizes and numbers for cavalry? Are the ECW or WSS cavalry not compatible with the new range.

I havent got round to it yet - I'm confident we'll get some official horse soon and i'll probably look at the basing once I've got some figures - since a lot depends on how the big the figures are. All in all base sizes don't seem to be critical in BTLB so i'll probably make it more of an aesthetic choice.

They're a pretty good match if I recall correct, I'm sure there's a pic on the Forum somewhere.

Thanks Leon, i see there is an austrian curassier in the WSS range.
I think i will go for the 30mm x 30mm bases you are using goat major, gives a bit more room for those scenic extras for my WSS figures.

Good idea Steve, little scenic effects in bases can make quite a difference - you should be able to position the figures more centrally too - I've had to push them forward a bit so as to leave space for the 3rd rank.

We play BtLB and just use the 18 man battalion, what we found is that you can actually use the two line linner tactics of the era when using 10mm, we use the 15mm basing instructions found in the book.
