Four Feathers

Used netflix to receive all three (3) versions of Four Feathers movie.  1939 version very interesing as the advent of the motion picture industry a bit chaotically edited and with a very distinct shift in the feel of the movie and character personalities seemed to shift a bit but a good film.  Watching the 1977 version next.  I am wondering if this movie was made intentionally in 1939 as a social commentary on war prior to WWII.  Has anyone read any articles on the movie and its relationship to social history.
