Hello!  I thought of whipping up a dragon for the comp, but I was persuaded that it was possibly a tad too unwieldy for a dungeon crawl. (Especially at the Smaug/dnd red dragon size that sprang to mind)  So I decided on something smaller, but still scaly and snappy. :)  A couple of sketches first...

I'll keep it easy for now, and go for the lazy sprawl.  The thing grew a bit between the decision on size and skinning the armature, but it'll still fit on a dungeon tile.  I hope.

And a sneak peek at another entry, if I don't take too long on the basilisk.

Like the basilisk.

What's your plans with the other sculpt?
Life is too important to be taken seriously.

Vermis

Ta. :)

I want to keep the second one under my hat for now. (it'll likely not get anywhere fast)  It's a mass of something, but not ooze and tentacles. ;)

Leon

Excellent, a basilisk had never occured to me!  Don't worry about the size too much, if it's a bit bigger than a tile it's no problem.

At the risk of being pedantic - isn't a basilisk a kind of serpent? Lovely little model, though.  :-bd
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

I always envisage them as a bigger kind of Komodo dragon, with a poisonous bite and bad breath!

I always imagined it as rather small, since it hatches out of a serpent egg gone weird and incubated by a cockerel.  The Harry Potter version looked more like a Wyrm to me, way too big.  It is said to be a serpent, but the mini's I have look more like the one Vermis did.

I'm still alive!  I let this gather dust for a while but it's getting close to finished now.  The reason for the big push is the same reason I'm glad I don't have to stay up 'til the wee hours tonight, to get it finished.  For the past week or so I've had 'end of June, end of June' running through my head.  :-[

To answer an old question... Hertsblue: AFAIK ye olde mythical basilisks were serpentlike or serpent-derived monsters, looking pretty much like the creatures on this page.  Also mixed up a lot with cockatrices, which are better divided and defined in modern fantasy settings.

That's where I got this version of a basilisk. Specifically, old D&D references.  Heavy lizardlike critters, like Leon's view:
