Warmaster Napoleonics basing

Hi,

am just starting off in 10mm Napoleonics and after reading various posts here I've opred for WMA Naps. I've just got a question about basing,( which may alreday have been aanswered somewhere but I haven't ofufound it!).  Using DBA style 40x20 bases for infantry, what do people do for lights, such as Rifles, jägers, Grenzer etc? Same base size with fewer figs or different size/shape bases?  I'm thinking of doing line infantry at 10 figs a base and lights at 6 or 8.

Yeah as with all Warmaster, its all about the bases, not whats on them, thats only there to remind you what it is.

In fact it was one of your AAR that helped me decide for them  .  The last time I played Napoleonics was about 25 years ago using Don Featherstone's generic H&M rules and a motley crew of Airfix, Hinchcliffe and Minifigs, so I thought it was time to change!  I've used Warmaster for some medieval scraps and think it plays reasonably well, so hopefully the Nappy add-ons won't be too problematic.

Anyhow, building the forces is the first problem to deal with!

Is it official?

I know Osprey just pushed out a Field of Glory Napoleonics (very pretty, but...well...why?!?), and i picked up a Warhammer Historical version a while back...

Personally i'd go with Age of Eagles...

Since I play solo mostly, I'm not too worried about it being official.

Will have a look out for  Age of Eagles - doesn't ring any bells..

Not 'official' as in sanctioned by anyone particularly - but it's a great variant developed years ago & refined through playtesting on the historical-warmaster Yahoo group - and free for download from there - or ping me an email & I'll zap it to you - comes with the Nik guarantee of fast, fun & furious gaming

I believe there was an official Warmaster Napoleonic set in development (tried out by some players at one of the Warmaster competition events) but with the changes at Warhammer Historical I guess it never reached production.

Warmaster Napoleonic is really now in the Rick Priestly format of Black Powder. Very similar mechanics to Warmaster, but with a lot of development. These are well worth a look as they don't demand you base in one way or another as long as both forces are the same. You can get a good price on Amazon for these rules. They also have the advantage of being playable from 1700 to 1900 so you can tinker with other periods if you so desire and there is a lot of resource available on the Interweb.
