How to manage artillery or air attacks against units in a Dug-out?

Rules indicate they cannot be seen, so cannot be the subject of non-scheduled artillery /air attacks (no LOS)... but they may be subject to scheduled attacks or within the template attack area of another targeted unit.

In such circumstances , do they...
(1) Take attacks per normal rules (seems unlikely, makes dug-outs rather pointless IMO)?
(2) Take attacks per normal rules, but hits can only cause suppression?
(3) Take no hits. Units in Dug-Outs are immune to artillery and air attacks?
(4) Something else happens?

Currently going with (2)

Many thanks

I think 1 is the correct answer, invisibilty is not invunerability
