I won't bore you with all the details...It'd take too long to explain.

I was VERY stressed yesterday, because of having to have the young 'Lab' 'operated on' to have a tooth removed.
Original vets' price.....Just shy of 300.....A lot, but we could just about cope with that.

The final bill was just shy of 700.......EEEK !
At least 'Shea' is home safely......Thank goodness...he's pretty chipper..bless him...and that's the most important thing for Von and yours truly.

Cheers - Broke of Wales. Cry Cry Cry

Hope the poor wee thing is okay.

And, like Steve J, that's one of the reasons we won't ever get a dog.

The whole thing seems like a bit of a scam to me anyway: Vets bills are high, so you're encouraged to get insurance --> Everyone's insured so we can push the bills up even more . . .

The boy is 'doing real good' (Touch wood)....Thanks, Martyn ! Smiley

We're all somewhat cream crackered (him, and me, and Von).

'Shea' II' ended up having a lot more than just a single tooth out.....Poor little b*gger Sad.....anyone want to have a guess how many were (supposedly) removed ?
Dogs, normally, as adults, have 42 teeth....'Shea' is around seven years old..(slightly more than 'middle aged)...and was as 'fit as a flea'......apart from the single tooth, which we knew about............eventually. Sad

For the next couple of weeks, he'll be getting better nosh than his pack leaders.
Don't care.....Beans on toast will do me....I really don't fancy raw , cheapo, beef mince, from Tesco's.  Sick

BIG GSD had annual vacs, yesterday. Vet 'would have liked' to check teeth... but NOT a good idea! Muzz'd dog making it very clear! lol.
Vet bills astronomical... but huge costs, too.
Lot of it is the Pharma manufacturers... just How much does a Pill cost when made by the millions?
Pet ' Insurance' is another cost 'driver'... you pretty much HAVE to have it... but ''Guaranteed' income for Vet chains. Not James Herriot, now. Sad

One of the two brothers that we lost last year was permanently on thyroid pills, and specific painkillers......We saved a fair old amount on those, buying them from an online pet pharmacy.

Getting the local vet to give us a proper prescription, that we could send onto the online retailer cost 25 (I think)...We could use that six times before the local vet had to see him again...and issue us with a new 'six monthly' prescription.

We saved LOTS more than the 25 , by doing it that way.

Online pharma 'may' be reliable... MUCH cheaper for Kaolin syringes... seem to work.  Not so sure about other Treatments. 'Human' stuff... Very dodgy'!

I'd guess the same, Keith.

I assume that you'd still need to furnish the online pharmacies with proper prescriptions......Unless it IS something you can buy over the counter here, in the UK ?
Very dodgy is probably an understatement ! Wink

We HAVE used an online pharmacy to 'bulk buy' human anti-histamine tablets for one the horses, that suffers from a condition called 'sweet itch'. (The vet having told us that those pills...piriton ..I think  Undecided...would work well)

We bought oodles of the generic version.
When we went to buy some more, they asked us what they were for.....A Horse....."Ah...No..we can't supply any medication for animal use."
That's fair enough.....Now we know.

Cheers - Phil. Smiley

I get my stuff on line, the supplier contacts GP for approval. It saves me a 200 m walk to the surgery and pharmacy. Always was da*ned lazy.
