Sit around and look pretty? In March 18 they were used as fast moving reserves, and also intended for pursuit after the non-existant break-through.

All armies kept Divisions of cavalry around all the way to the end of WWI, despite all of them always wanting more infantry. So the commanders of the time clearly felt they had a use (or perhaps couldn't bring themselves to admit the time of cavalry was over) hoping for the big break through where the cavalry could exploit into the green fields...
