Cameronian informs me that Mike Embree sadly died before Christmas.   He was a true gentleman, and wrote three splendid books on aspects of the wars of  the mid nineteenth century.  I was lucky enough to do a recce of the Western Battlefields of 1866 with him, Bruce Weigle, and a few other nutters, back in the late noughties. A splendid trip, with lots of good memories. Sad days.

That is very sad news but, given his diagnosis, a blessed relief based upon personal experience . A true gentleman indeed and I was lucky enough to have a good chat with him at Colours and then give him a lift home one year. He introduced me to Bruce and his books at the show and my interest in mid-19thC European warfare began there . I have his books and will treasure them even more.
