Trajanic to be closer. A commission in 10mm Pendraken by Si Hall, the author of Mortiem et Gloriam. Shield transfers made to size by the Baggage Train.

Legio I

Deployed in close order

Deployed in loose order

A blurry Legio II

Rear view

Legio III (needs attached artillery)

Sudden craving for a 10mm Asterix!

Legio IV, also in need of artillery!

Note the subtle shield variation from Legio III

Must mark up that last base

The might of 204 legionary figures!

Top view - just realised it's about 107.7089123 per man to a real legion here!

Late Republic shields may have been colour coded by cohort, Late Empire shields are a variety of colours. Those Early/ Mid Imperial shields we have found are all, or at least mainly red but I'm not convinced that means they all were. The Dura Europos shields are very fancy and may have been parade rather than field issue .... or may not :)

Like most of Ancient History, we have lots of very educated guesses but very few certainties!

Did you have to cut out a hole for the shield boss(es) in the transfers (?), Will ?
With luck, I might have time to get the paints out again, soon.....and I've fancied having a go at some of these chaps.

Cheers - Phil  :)
