Whereas I find the Medieval ranges to be lovely Pendraken goodliness, and I have dived deep into the catalogue, I do feel we're missing an iconic figure. The title of the thread may have given it away but the knight of about 1400. Plate and mail, bascinet, surcoat.  This sort of thing:-

Could you add them to the very long wish list? Please?   :D :D :D :D

Arnt they technically called 'dog-faced' bascinets?

I keep misreading the title as pig faced bastards.

Well, they are in German, where these are called 'hundsgugel'. But in French it's 'bec de passereau', i.e. sparrow's beak. And pig-faced seems to be the accepted English term. In all cases, I think these are the names given in later times by historians anyway.
Water is indeed the essential ingredient of life, because without water you can't make coffee!

Frankly, Scarlet, you can call 'em what you want, but please may I have them on the wish list?

They've always been pig-faced bascinets to me, and I've always liked the look.

Actually, I can date my attraction to the look to 1973, when my dad bought me the Hamlyn All -Colour Paperback "Arms and Armour" by Frederick Wilkinson - thought to be fair he doesn't use the term "pig faced". (Wilkinson that is. Dad could be cruel.)

I think my disquiet about the Renaissance started abut the same time.

Ah, the sort of book that maintains history began in 1066 and ended in 1945, and never took place east of Mesopotamia unless the English exported it!

That it's good to feel how much the world has opened up from the desperately introverted and jingoistic xenophobia I and some others at least grew up in. Subtext: I don't have much time for certain types of nostalgia.
