Lord Kermit of Birkenhead

The only problem with the Medieval books is that the illo's are several pages away from the piccies.

The one I sent you?

Yeah I enjoyed the pages you scanned for me so ended up getting the full book on Kindle.

It's annoying the way he keeps calling native spears "lances".

Haha yes, though I'm guessing that's maybe just in the spirit of the Spanish translations? Also a lot of the illustrations are a bit away from the information about them so there's a fair bit of scrolling back and forth. Probably less an issue with a physical book.

Some good information though, especially focused on warfare.

It's certainly worth having. Have you got to that bizarre catapult?

Yes! The only real evidence for any sort of pre-contact "artillery" I've come across and it's one illustration and a few lines of description. It can't have been that effective though, a spinning crossbeam with a pike of stones in front, I'm sure there's a fair amount of friendly fire.

(Sorry Paul, bit off topic!)

That's OK as there is not a lot else to talk about on this thread as a certain package is still sitting in CINCINNATI HUB, OH - USA :-w

It hasn't even been processed or transferred in over 24 hours :!!

I've been doing some research on various banners and liveries while waiting :)

I think there is a reference to bolt-shooting native artillery somewhere in the Vinland Saga. A bit to the north, admittedly.

I'd guess that it's probably on a plane somewhere but they've not scanned it yet, so it'll suddenly update to NZ in the next day or so hopefully.

I've decided on the 6 Knights I will use as the basis of my English armies

Based on The characters in Shakespeare's Henry V they will be:

  • King Henry V - White & Blue livery
  • Duke of Exeter - White & Red livery
  • Earl of Salisbury - Red & Black livery
  • Duke of Gloucester - Mulberry & Blue livery
  • Duke of York - White & Blue livery
  • Earl of Warwick - Red livery
Interestingly it appears that Thomas Beaufort was only made Duke of Exeter in 1416, so at the time of Agincourt he was the Earl of Dorset :-B

Time to do some research on:

  • Constable of France
  • Duke of Bourbon / Duke of Brittany (depending on the edition of the play)
  • Duke of Orléans
  • Duke of Berry
  • Duke of Burgundy I also have a Burgundian army, to be lead by Jean the Fearless
  • Lord Rambures
  • Lord Grandpré
