Oh dear! My standard greeting to new forum members incoming. :)

Welcome to the Pendraken forum, David.

The forum membership is, by turns, warm, welcoming, well-informed, well-read, well intentioned and, as you will see from this thread, well weird :)

So, whatever part of this spinning sphere you are from, pull up a mushroom, take a load off and enjoy your time here.  Present impressions to the contrary, the forum can be a useful source of info on all sorts of things military .... and otherwise.

Russian musketeers received their first felt shako, called a 'shapki' in 1803.  An improved type was authorised for musketeers and grenadiers 1805.  In 1807 it received leather reinforcements around the top and at the sides, and a new name - the 'kiver'.  The characteristic shako with the concave top, authorised in 1812 was also called a 'kiver'.  I have seen it said that 'flash to bang' for these new pieces of kit was at about a year.

There is also the matter of knapsacks.  The cylindrical one was replaced by a square one in 1808 so there would be a need for three different Russian infantry figures to cover the major campaigns of the period.

I'm not convinced the added bands on the shako would really matter in 10mm if it was just that, which is why I disregarded it. The backpack is a good point though, I tend to forget the change doesn't correspond to the headgear change. And it is highly noticeable.

That means
Early War - 1803-07 cylindrical shako, busch plume, cylindrical backpack
Mid War - 1808-1811 reinforced shako, busch plume, square backpack*
Late War - 1812-15 concave 'kiwer' shako, thin plumes, square backpack

I know the Mid War uniform is actually the most likely for the 1812 campaign but I have to question how popular it would be, I suspect the average parsimonious wargamer would plump for Early or Late (mostly Late) be nice to see it though, are there any others in existence?

*I think the cavalry and artillery remain Early/Late - I can't immediately think of any major differences for the middle period, unless shakos ...

Welcome Ave75.

While the forum is fun and informative, some of the members are ,well , um........ nothing short of insane.

In fact as I said to the Giant Rabbit and Evil hedgehog yesterday" they really are absolutely mad".    I did not get to hear their replies as my friend in the white coat came and told me it was tea time.

Yes, I think you have the essence of the appearance of the Russians as far as it is reasonable to expect in a 10mm figure.  It is 'worse' than that though, because you have cords added in 1809 and the thin plume replacing the busch-type in 1811.
