The rules have had a week of frequent intervention, and now play a lot more smoothly. Fleets begin closer, the weather gauge is useful, and there's far less scope for gamesmanship.

The French came on in a rather strange formation which isolated one of their squadrons rather seriously; the ships got into play too late.

Your humble narrator, chafing at the clothes he has to wear when playing most opponents, and the French commander looking ever nerdier in his shorts.

Landing party did its job well. To the chagrin of the French, the militia were all watching the battle from the church spire and didn't notice the attack on the forts. A party of dragoons did intervene, but at 4-1 units against, didn't do very well.

The printed rowing boat markers don't look all that good.

The general engagement was violent and widespread. Many boarding fights.

The red squadron did a Nelson, cutting a big French force in half (picture one shows them coming in from the NW, on the right) and then overwhelming the windward section before the rest could get back into action - see picture two for the hapless continentals being shot up on two flanks.

Brilliant looking game, as Nappy ships should be.
