Warmaster Recasting?

Hey,

I know recasting is a controversial topic.

But I've been looking for a way to get some OOP warmaster miniatures. So I wonder if you guys have any information how to get recasted miniatures I'd be interested.

If I by any means am breaking some hobby rules by asking this, please remove my thread and let me know that this is not something we can discuss.

Recasting is frowned upon.

Besides, auction sites are full of Warmaster and other figures.

It's almost certainly a breach of copyright and Games Workshop usually prosecute or getbnasty at the very least, if they get wind of it.

I'd say

For Chaos, go to Laran.

For Orcs & Goblins, Copplestone and/or Polar Fox.

For Empire go to Warmonger.

For Ogre kingdoms go to Black Gate.

Elves, Dwarves and various Undead types you can get from Pendraken.

All probably cheaper than Evilbay and less trouble than tangling with IP lawyers.

Lots of useable/convertible figures in Kallistras Hordes and Heroes range.

And there's always Pendraken.

Recasting is theft of the original IP and should never be allowed.  I know that the original WM figures can be hard to find, and expensive if you do find them, but we can never use that as an excuse to allow recasting.  Someone could equally decide that Pendraken figures are too expensive so they'll recast some for themselves, which would be theft of our property and is taking money away from me and our employees. 

There are enough 10mm companies available these days to fill a lot of the original WM lists and we're hoping to expand with some more in the coming months/years.

Don't recast. Makes it harder for every one.

It's why oop new in blister/box GW stuff is so expensive these days, because they give more assurance that they are not recasted.

I hope with the revival of Specialist Games we're to see Warmaster going in to reprint in the future.

No problem at all, I know you didn't mean anything, it's just important to keep recasting away from the industry where we can!

I believe they are, yes, and they've been found reselling several wargames companies products in recent years unfortunately.  We bought the TB Line ranges from Aster and they seemed professional at the time, so it's disappointing to find out that they're doing this.

No problem. I know it sometimes is rough to get what you need on the second hand market. (i collected an all metal imperial guard army a couple of years back)

But still i wouldn't do recasts. AS an example, i recently tried to sell my mordheim models, bought straight from the shop when they were released. The amount of recasts going around for mordheim stuff actually brings the price down for loose models, and drives the price of boxed ones way up. In the end i didn't even care to sell them anymore. I just kept them.

I'm generally against recasting for the reasons mentioned above and generally try to find alternatives from other suppliers for Warmaster. I've always tried to support smaller businesses that don't have prices that take the piss. But if a manufacturer ceases making the models and stops supporting the game then no issue whatsoever with
recasting provided the pricing reflects the fact they're recast.

I've found making my own quite rewarding and although they won't be winning any prizes they're fit for purpose when playing fantasy where many creatures don't have to conform to proportional norms. You bugger your fingers up a bit though with blades & wires breaking the green stuff encrusted skin. Takes ages as well unless you come up with a cunning plan.

There's loads of decent 10mm manufacturers around although I still haven't worked out how to get stuff from the U.S. without paying the equivalent price for postage as goods.
