Colin and I  had a couple of games of Cruel Seas at the Tring Club last night, it was an opportunity for Colin to try out his new little AB-Tei gunboats from Scotia Grendel.

The scenario was 3 gunboats were escorting a supply convoy of sampans and barges along the Malayan coast, when they were jumped by British motor launches, 4 Fairmile Bs and a Harbour Defence Motor Launch.  A full batrep on the blog https://grahamsgaming.blogspot.com/2019/08/cruel-seas-japanese-vs-british.html

There do seem to be quite a few areas for improvement in the Cruel Seas rules ;)

Thank you for the comments gentlemen.

paulr: There are a few holes in the rules, but give a fun game and are easily tweaked to patch the holes according to the player's particular styles/preferences.

Good game Graham, and well reported.   It reinforces my own conclusions about the power of gunboats with 57mm artillery in relatively calm seas.

Looks a good scrap once you'd balanced the crews!

I've played a couple of games but they were all regular crews. I'll keep an eye out if someone suggests veterans ;)

I'm looking at an all-day mini campaign of 3 linked games. Japanese sneak attack with air support on a British/Commonwealth naval base.
Japanese invasion fleet trying to get troopships past blockading Ausies.
Japanese trying to sneak supply convoy to the landing beaches.
Losses in the earlier games will have impact on later games, such as replacement boats having inexperienced crews, Japs losing air support eta.
Expect batreps in the near future!
