Can anyone suggest a set of sci-fi skirmish rules? Preferably more space opera than  hard sci-fi.

Are you looking for ground soldiers, ground battles with vehicles or space-ships?

Star Grunt, not bad, Gruntz, again not bad - some online support, Beam Strike - free from the Yahoo Group, but buy a box of paper and several cartridges. FWC has a skirmish section.
