Hi all. SYW gamers amongst you may recall I authored the Honours of War rules a few years ago.

I just wanted to flag up my new set of rules for this period, Post of Honour, designed to give a simpler game. With all those rule sets out there, it's good to have something that's easy to learn.

This is not a product plug - these rules are currently in development as a hobby project and are free to download.

Best wishes to all, and hope you enjoy the rules. Feedback and comments welcomed.

Wonderful stuff, I'll have a look and may be back with questions (if that's OK).

Thanks. I assume same basing as HoW?

Also, do you have any thoughts on doing larger battles where one stand equals one battalion/regiment? I have 18mm Eureka figures based for HoW but I also have 60+ stands of 10m figures on 60mmx30mm bases which can be used for larger battles. I'd like to be able to do Mollowitz, Minden, Leuthen, Prague, etc. with those as well.

HoW basing works perfectly, as will most basing schemes.

Personally, I'm not a fan of playing in the scale you mention. I want my battalions and regiments to look like battalions and regiments, so around 12 figures is my minimum. I have to accept that some major battles are simply not possible with the rules I like to play. However, making a 20 figure battalion represent 3 to 5 real battalions (etc.) is one way out and can bring medium sized historical engagements within reach.

For example:

As Post of Honour is simpler than HoW, and I have started using slightly smaller 16 figure infantry units, PoH is more suitable for large battles.

We are working on a set to do large battles like this at the moment. It is an extension of the 'Twilight of the Sun King' (1670-1720) and 'Divine Right' (1620-1670) rules covering the period 1720 to 1770.

A stand is either a battalion or a regiment (i.e. 2 battalions). Like the other rules in the series the aim is to play historic battles in a single games session of say 4 hours & with a reasonable sized table and number of figures.

The set is provisionally called 'Twilight of Soldier Kings' and hopefully should be available later in the year.

I suppose Steve J and me will now have to try out a campaign with these rules. Let's try and shoe-horn the Jacobite and AWI into them  ;)
