Steve - Sellswords and Frostgrave are quite different, but both fun. We have also been playing a Frostgrave campaign for the past year and will be playing our way through the Lich Lord book for 2019.

Sellswords is cooperative, it's the players against the monsters and also works very well for solo games. It's quicker to set up as it doesn't need as much scenery as Frostgrave and the games are shorter, usually lasting an hour to an hour-and-a-half. Sellswords is more flexible, I have found it much easier to create new scenarios for Sellswords than my attempts at Frostgrave and I've converted it to a VSF version.

Sellswords has more of the feel of the D&D games I played in my teens, without all the charts and rule books. Plus it's cheap, I paid $8 for the pdf download.

It sounds promising so far.
I read a bit about cards. Are they included in the PDF? Are they easy to print out?

Yes Steve, you get separate pdfs of Monster, Activation, Spell and Potion cards with the rules. They are bigger than playing cards, more the size of a tarot deck. I printed mine on 160 gsm card and that's fine. I originally printed them in grey-scale rather than colour, as I am a cheapskate and wanted to try the rules out before using too much ink. I have been gradually reprinting them in colour as I'm getting a lot of use out of the rules.

I've also been using a basic Paint programme to create a couple of new cards for monsters not included in the rules.

The rules also have a sheet of counters so you can get started without models, or use them to stand in for models you didn't have in your collection.

I really like the mechanics of monster activation. You decide how many actions a PC wants to attempt in they turn (up to 3) and roll d20 for each. 8+ is a pass, each pass gives the PC one action. For each fail you draw a card from the Activation deck, before the PC activates,  which moves one (or more) monsters, triggers an ambush or causes something to happen (usually bad).
