First things first, i don't care much about the halloween hype. I just happened to have a game of fear and faith yesterday, trying it out before i buy more minis for those rules at crisis this weekend. I've played a zombie game with modified terminator genesys rules a few weeks ago, and still had to play using fear and faith to compare.

Simple scenario, my band of survivors has to cross the table, and try to broadcast an SOS on the satelite radio , conveniently placed in a cemetary by the army. (who have been devoured)

Almost the same team as last game: max, the leader, chainsaw cindy, soul man, sherrif and a SWAT officer. Half of the zombies get deployed, with more arriving every turn, or when someone shoots, untill the force is complete.

setup

the band of survivors

the satellite radio in the cemetary

First turn soul man risks a shot at the zombie dog and misses, and immediately gets the worst dice rolls possible, to bring in 6 more zombies.

The team knock some zombies down with shotgun fire, but fail to kill any

they prepare to make a stand in front of the church, and are being surrounded

the first Z's to make it into melee, are promptly dispatched by chainsaw cindy!

Soul man knocks down another one

Swat guy tries to shoot some more, but gets his weapon jammed

a few more reach cindy...

and one of them feels the bite of the chainsaw

on their turn, the survivors get an unlucky turnover (on quality 2+) and swat guy only barely unjams his assault rifle

Luckily, the zombies have a turnover as well

Cindy starts the turn by cutting a Z in half...

and suddenly there is a gap in the mob, and the team runs through to reach the cemetary.

SWAT guy falls short though!

he gets charged by a zombie dog, fails his fear test and backs away, tripping over a rock, and ends the turn on his back. luckily the zombie turn ends there

on her turn, cindy continues doing what she does best

against all expectations, SWAT guy gets 3 activations off, stands up, wins the combat and runs to safety

the team is now fighthing their way to the objective

but bad activation rolls keep the pressure up!

the zombies close in

but the team knocks a few down before entering the cemetery

and while cindy can't keep up, sherrif is rushing to the objective!

He reaches the objective next turn...

but an unlucky turnover makes sure cindy stays where she is

cindy gets isolated...

but in her turn, she downs the zombie, and rushes over the fence to safety, just before another turnover is rolled ( a lot of snake-eyes!)

next turn sees the team knock some zombies down, but cindy doesn't succeed in joining them

as the zombies stay down a bit longer than expected, the team consolidates their position, while sherrif rolls his first 2 successes

zombies streaming through the cemetary entrance, it's going to be tight!

but Sherrif rolls the last success they need!

Game won by the survivors, without any losses!

Must confess, did not enjoy this game 100%. While i like it when the zombies are tough to put down, with all the shooting i did i would have at least thought a few would die. Only knockbacks and recoils all over. Only casualties came from Cindy's chainsaw! te original scenario reads 'the survivors win when all zombies are killed". I really can't see that happening!

First game of the " song of blades " engine that i didn't enjoy fully. I'll be messing with the rules a bit i guess, needing to roll a 6 or doubling on an aimed shot or power attack is just too rare to be a viable option to kill a zombie. Might make it on a regular attack as well.

All in all, good comeback fom the survivor team, as i thought they were toast when they were pressed in front of the church!

Do they not die when doubled or beaten when knocked down like "normal" Song, then? That would make it hard work :S

No, only when rolling a six or doubling on an aimed shot (a headshot).

The idea is good, but spending two of you actions to be able to get a kill is a harsh penalty.especially as you need your actions to keep moving away from those zombies! chainsaws and grenades count as lethal though!

It was  hard to shoot one down so i even went back to see if i had made a rules booboo!

Blimey, that really is hard work! Works well otherwise though?

Great fun......Is it just me, or are the piccies taking longer than normal to come up on the screen ?
It's probably my 'not lightspeed' internet connection. :(

Really fun stuff, Peter!  Go, Cindy! It would be interesting to limit the fuel in her chainsaw.

Note to Techno: as we both live in the backofbeyond my picture download was VERY slow.

Meanwhile, we were beset by roving bands of hobbits demanding candy and hurling rolls of toilet tissue into the trees.

It is. When you fight with the chainsaw, you roll an extra die in a different colour. That's the jam-die. When that die rolls the same as your attack die, the chainsaw gets clogged and you have to spend an action to restart. When both roll a 1, you are out of fuel.

Luckily it didn't happen this game!

A jammed chainsaw is a rather alarming mental picture!  :-&  :D

I normally spread my jam with a knife, so using a chainsaw makes for a very alarming sandwich...
