Just as a matter of interest....Is anyone else ending up on 'Bing' when expecting to go to Google.

Seems to be happening every 2 or 3 dozen goes at 'Googling'...and I'll swear I'm not doing anything different. :-\

(Oh goody 'gmail' has been improved...That's possibly going to be a pain.......Though at a quick glance, it doesn't seem to have changed TOO much.)

Not had that one. Past couple of days been slow running, but just had an update so no surprises there.

Friend of mine gets that regularly, Phil.

I've gone through the settings of the laptop with a fine tooth comb but can't find a reason.

As far as I can see the thing shouldn't even know Bing exists.

Have not seen that problem (although Google becomes more intrusive by the day). Which browser are you using?

I get that from time to time on my laptop.  I'm using Firefox and there's an update somewhere that reverts my 'default' search engine to Yahoo.  I usually don't notice for a while until I realise it's not doing what I'd expect it to (such as offering me Maps when I search a location) and then I have to go into my browser settings and change it back.

I got the Gmail update as well but I didn't even bother trying it, I just clicked 'Revert to Classic Gmail' straightaway.  I hate it when email providers decide to change their interface for no apparent reason, leaving you hunting for the button that used to be there, or trying to click an option that used to do exactly what you wanted.

Thanks for those replies, chaps.

I'm glad it's not my imagination.....Or somehow I'm clicking on the wrong 'thingy'.....(See...I know all the jargon ! ;))

As Mike says....As far as I'm aware it shouldn't know that Bing exists....bit puzzling.
It wouldn't be anything to do with Google being forced to point out other search engines......because they've got such a monopoly on searches, could it ?...Just a thought.

Like Leon, I use Firefox....But unlike Leon, I hadn't noticed I didn't HAVE to change to the new format for Gmail...I'll keep the new one for a while and then change back (if it'll let me by then) if I start getting confused. (Goes without saying that that'll happen at some stage.  :-[)

TBH I'd never even heard of Bing until this thread.

I don't believe there's any real reason why you should, Andy.

Think my computer expertise is probably on a par with yours Phil. I often find myself asking which thingy to press. My mate (ex-IT bloke) got proper shirty with me the other day when he kept asking me to drag such and such down. Turns out I have been scrolling for the last 30 years when I thought I was dragging!  :(

It's not Google who do it, it's Firefox themselves. They're all available in the search box usually, if you hover over the magnifying glass next to your 'Search' box in the top right, there should be a little down arrow which you can click and it'll show you the different search engine options.  I always have my default set as Google, but browser updates seem to change this without me knowing.  I think there must be some kind of deal in place with Firefox so that whenever they do an update to the browser, they revert to Yahoo searches.
