Most grave markers will date to 18th century or later, that was because if you were rich enough you would have a tomb in church, commoners might get a wooden cross, or be buried in an unmarked or communal grave.

Wot Will just said.

Prior to the Reformation there were practically no grave markers outside the church, anyone who could afford a memorial would be buried inside the church in some manner.

You do see a few grave markers prior to about 1650, but extremely rare. Churchyards were used for all sorts of secular activities (meetings, military musters, formal announcements etc) and lumps of stone sticking out the ground would just get in the way. It may be an extreme example but the precincts of St Pauls in the late 16th/early 17th century, not only hosted numerous booksellers and stationers stalls, sermons and state announcements (like the defeat of the Spanish Armarda) from St Pauls Cross, and various food and ales sellers, but had regular horse fairs and four times a years had a temporary gallows for public hangings.

Thanks Mad Lemmy & Sunjester, definitely saving £3 then :)

I'm waiting for some of your 6mm buildings to show up. I keep edging toward "Wendy House". Leman's FPW (et. al.) pics have almost convinced me, just need an ECW nudge to get me over the top!
Sleep with clean hands ...

paulr

Give me a chance, I haven't ordered the buildings yet ;) ;D

Base coated the horses on what is now the current batch :)

Cut out and prepared some 15x15 counters which will be labeled up 1 through 10, these will replace my temporary cardboard ones :!!

Varnished what was the current batch :)

Well done that man  :)

When did you say the Montgomery refight was?

I will get Mrs Shy to make those bags this weekend too.

Though much is taken, much abides; and though
we are not now that strength which in old days
moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are.

paulr

We will have to see if we can schedule the Montgomery refight after our current game so maybe in a week or two :-\

Thank Mrs Shy for me (She is kindly making me a couple of bags to draw chits from)
