Weapons highlighted :)

Details finished :)

Faces and the few visible hands base coated :)

Prepared my Leven buildings :)

Took advantage of a calm morning to undercoat them :)
I knew I was cutting it fine with the amount of black spray I had left so undercoated the undersides with grey to seal them
Then undercoated the sides and rooves black and ran out with four buildings left to do :o
The remaining four have been undercoated grey, it will be interesting to see how much they stand out :-\

Hair done :)

Faces and the few visible hands high lighted :)

Collars, plumes and last of the hat bands done :)

Touched up undercoat, where spray missed, on buildings :)

Filled a couple of small holes on buildings :)

Started preparing next batch; remaining commanders and 4 units of horse :!!

We are hoping to do Cheriton at our Nationals at Easter next year :-\
I've realised how much is left to paint :!! :!! :!!

We are hoping to do Cheriton at our Nationals at Easter next year :-
I've realised how much is left to paint :!! :!! :!!

After some logistical calculations we decided that we would commit to going to the wargaming  "Nationals" in Paraparaumu next Easter, its only about a hours drive north of Wellington. Aiming to put on Cheriton refight so Paul's going to concentrate on finishing off whatever needs to be done for that (several hundred more figures  :o) so the Scots will go on to the back burner for the moment after the current batch is done.....I have other projects that I can progress in the meantime.....and a new mission to (hopefully) lure some old Spearhead players from round NZ to a largish game in Wellington later next year...I wonder who came up with that idea  ;)
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
we are not now that strength which in old days
moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are.

There's only 919 figures left to do :o
And I've just finished 36 of them ;)

The current batch of Scots and English are now painted :)

The next batch, 4 Regiments of Horse and the remaining 24 commanders, are prepared, on the painting rods and under coated :) :) :)

I've assembled the three sabots for the current batch of horse and painted the first side of the sabots and bases :!!

Hedges added yesterday to the bases I did a while ago, soaked in dilute PVA this afternoon :) :)
I'm going to need more for Cheriton, I need to work on the deployment map :!!

My buildings will be put to one side as well while I focus on getting the figures done :!! :!!

I think we can both share the 'credit' for the largish Spearhead game, the date of the event next year helped (August 2019)

Painted the second side of the bases & sabots for the current batch  :)

Base coated most of the horses in the next batch :) :!!

Trying to work out how to fit the battle onto a reasonable number of tables :-\

Must be time for more piccies soon ??  :)

Current batch based :)

Looks like varnishing weather on Saturday :-w so hopefully some piccies then

Hedges highlighted and flocked :)

Next batch:

  • horses highlighted
  • armour base coated and highlighted
  • buff coats base coated and highlighted

It looks like I might be able to fit the battle of Cheriton on a 1.8m x 3.6m table (6'x12' in old money), with only a few geographical liberties  :-\

Paul, you amaze me with how quickly you can paint figures and still have them look so nice! I am looking at four figures to round out my Rohan army and so far I've only gotten them primed and certain areas undercoated white. Check back with me three weeks or so, and MAYBE I'll have them done!!!!  :)

Hats and boots base coated and highlighted on the next batch :)

I have found an approach that 'just works' for me :)

The great sculpts work really well with this approach and allow me to get result I'm happy with fairly quickly :) :!!

I think you must also have an awful lot of patience, Paul.

When I USED to paint, I tended to think of each wee man as an individual task......I don't think I'd have been able to work through them like you do....I'd have lost patience, I'm sure.

Just keep up the excellent work !!  :)

Blimey you are cracking on......at this rate all the troops will be done by Christmas......purhaps early 2019  ;)

FWIW Techno I have based up all the Scots Cavalry that Paul has done for me so far, just got to finish playing with the banners for the various regiments in GIMP then I will post some pics. Well pleased how they have turned out.
