Weathering powder

Good morning

My current project is to revisit one of my first Pendraken projects: British WWII, 1944. I've stripped down the recce element (15 Cromwells and Challengers; plus 2 Humber ACs, 2 Daimler ACs and 2 Daimler Scout Cars) using a Dettol bath, and have given them their lovely khaki drab topcoat. I'll be using I94 and Mehusla decals (yup, decals again) to actually tie the whole project to the Guards Armoured Division.

I'm on day 3 of decal application. The next step is weathering. Usually, I do this with a dry brush of a light earth/sand yellow  ... but ... I have in my possession (don't ask how I came by them, I have no idea) a set of weathering powders. I'm hoping to get a better effect, as I'd like a very light dusting rather than my usual "been in action for weeks" look.

So, first time using weathering powders. Any advice?

Watched a youtube video which showed them being mixed with a medium.


Doesn't that make them "paint"?

Sorry never used them. I weather mine with vallejo texture paint.

I've used them, but only on larger scale (>20 mm) models. They can look a bit grainy as opposed to dusty - which guess is the effect that you're after?

Also, you'll need to "stick" the powder down. The best way is with a spray varnish I think (brushing just brushes it off) but the spray can blow it around a bit, and even off the model.

In short I wouldn't use them on 10mm models.  :(
