What ho, Mr Cossacks!

I'm a recent convert to static grass. To illustrate Friend Ithoriel's point about hobby horses, I will add that for me that's enough. No bushes, tress, walls, rocks etc, on the basis that troops don't normally lug around bushes, trees, walls and/or rocks. 

I use a mix of two colours to give me a bit of variation, and have been known to "sculpt" tracks into the back of vehicle bases, but that's it.

I nortmally base my 10mm in a similar way to the Baccus bassing system n the link below

I deviate slightly in that I ran out of the foundation wash and felt the £5.50 he charged for another pot a bit excessive.  I found that really thinned down acrylic burnt umber is almost exactly the same, so I bought a tube of cheap artists acrylic and thin it down in a small jar. It lasts for ages.

The other annoying thing is that Baccus only sell the basing highlight shades as a set, and you use far more of the base and middle coat than the others.  I am still trying to find equivalent colours from another source.

I use 1.5mm static grass that I buy from the local railway shop at about £2.50 for 20g.  I have different flock for different scales and in some case periods.  When I get it I decant it into an empty (and washed) margarine tub.  I then stick the descriptive label on the lid so I know what it is and sometimes what army, figures I have used it on. That way you get consistency as sometimes the colours look similar until you apply them to a new unit and find it stands out from the others.

The Horses would be scared of the wolves and the Uruks would be excited at the sight of all that extra meat.  they would probably slaughter a few horses and Cossacks  then fight amongst each other for the meat.

Hi Party With, welcome to the forum.
The movie canon seems to suggest that Ururk Hai never fare well against horse, or much of anything else, really. More show than substance.  ;)

I am very partial to static grass but for my bases I use mainly flock and a smattering of 2mm-4mm tufts.

Looking at the basing you have done is just amazing, I didn't know you could get such results in this scale.  Thanks for your explanations. It has given me a lot to work with.

Orcs - your prediction is probably right, except for one thing maybe - catching the buggers.  The Don are hard to catch, even Uruk tire, and the Don might just be able to 'do a Bradbury' as we say in Aust (the Aust short track speed skater who in 2002 was the first athlete from the southern hemisphere to win an Olympic gold after his more fancied opponents crashed out on the last turn...)

Brilliant Milord Oik! 

I had not thought about basing my 10mm on a single piece of 1 meter by 50cm foam with a road running through it, but watching the clip it seems the only way to go.
