Aztecs and Feathers

One of my other hobbies is bird watching.  Tonight at our local Audubon Society meeting we had a visitor from Chiapas Mexico telling us about birding in that region of Mexico.  I thought of some of you fine fellows in this group when he mentioned several of the birds having feathers that were popular with the Aztecs.  Granted they used feathers from all the local species, but the Quetzal and the Scarlet Macaw were some of the most popular for ornamentation.  Anyway, I thought these might give you some inspiration for painting your Aztecs.

Somehow the Dunnock and Wren can't quite match those wonderful birds. Still I love watching a charm of Goldfinches when they arrive in the garden, as they are beautiful birds.

Wonder why they evolved such vibrant colours in that part of the world, and not here?
