Well I had just come off the phone to my sister this evening when my mobile rang.

It was one of my brothers. He was calling from Hospital where he had been rushed this morning with a heart attack.   The NHS had done him proud and they have operated today and fitted a stent and done some other bits of fixing, so he felt fine and sounded all ok.  He expects to stay in a few days for observation

So I hope this is the last surprise this week and its not the start of another block of three!

Dearie me, Orcs! Just as well you ain't a certain Midshipman on HMS Surprise. So glad to hear your brother survived the heart attack. In 2009, I suffered from random attacks that would unexpectedly build up over 20 minutes then put me down on the floor for the next 5 to 10 minutes in agony as if an elephant was stamping on my chest. Then it would stop - relief - and within a half hour, I felt fine and it was as if it had never happened. I went to Accident & Emergency - they conducted their tests and concluded it was not a heart attack. I went to my GP, told him about my symptoms & what A&E said. For the next couple of months, the attacks became more frequent until I was having an attack 2 every 3 days. Each time, as I was on my knees burying my head into the sofa, I remember thinking, "this can't be good for my heart." In the meantime, my GP sent me for various tests for my stomach, gall bladder, etc. I eventually saw the most experienced GP in the practice who sent me to a heart specialist. I turned up for my appointment with the heart consultant. Told her my story and she wouldn't let me go home! I had unstable angina. I was fitted with a stent and have never looked back. At my rehabilitation sessions, I met guys who had heart attacks and also been fitted with stents - all doing fine - we even had a day out and all ended up in the pub! So, something to be optimistic about for your brother (except, before the stent, people say I used to be a very sensible, sane person .....   ;) )
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I think plenty of us are reaching an age which causes some thought and reflection on getting our priorities right.

Blimey! Glad to hear your brother is doing fine. As Norm says, a lot of us are at, or getting to an age, when our priorities change and/or are re-assessed. I'm certainly at that point.

Yes we need to do that, and while it seems its all going pear shaped there is normally someone out there who is having a far worse time.

Crikey, it's a bit exciting :S

Fingers crossed from here as well. My boss had stents in a few years back, and he was sorted and back to normal dead quick :)
