I am looking for brigade level rules for the period 1919-39. I have looked at some WW1 rules (Bloody Picnic and Contemptible Little Armies) but they have elements I'm unhappy with. A World Aflame  and Square Bashing have also been rejected for similar reasons. I am happy with If The Lord Spares Us as a rule set for WW1 and wonder if anyone has used these for RCW, for example. Some tweaking would be necessary for the troop characteristics, of course. Any advice would be very welcome and gratefully received.

Have you tried Red Actions for RCW?

They're free, so you may as well take a look at least.

Played a few games with those - they work well. Arc of fire is good as well, since the silly armour rules don't appear very often.

Funny old world isn't it; I couldn't get on with If the Lord Spares Us at all, but love Contemptible Little Armies and Square Bashing.

I would just use if the lord spared us as is for anything up to 1925.

Many thanks for the suggestions. I'll look at those free rules for my Soviet-Polish War forces but will need something more generic for the new project , Chinese Warlord Era, so will see what I can do with ITLSU.

KTravlos

Oh, if you are doing CWE then go with ITLSU. Even late in the period many of the Warlord Armies were WW1 forces.

Thanks for that tip. I think I will go with that.

I'd also go with ITLSU but I'd  also look at grafting bits of another TFL game, Triumph of the Will, onto it. TotW is very old, one of their first games, and so is dated  but it was written for the period and does have lots of good ideas spread through it.

By the way, the Osprey MAA on Chinese Warlord Armies is one of the better ones in my opinion.

I was going to suggest Squarebashing as well! Great game.

There's an "Old" AK 47 variant or two for it - including a "German Revolution" one if you want to wander a bit west wards.

And Graham Evans  has an interesting looking original system in the RFCM group files if you're a member...

See the RFCM group on Yahoo! Groups - https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/RFCM/files - might also be stuff on the new forum but I've not really bothered there, sorry.

Thank you for the further suggestions. I have played Squarebashing several times but didn't warm to it. I also have TOtW and have noted a couple of mechanisms for grafting on to ITLSU for use with CWE games. In fact as I read more about the period (in Jowett's big book on it) the more attractive that option becomes. Many thanks for all the advice from forum members.
