I'll be putting something in the Announcements section as well soon, but for now, here's some info on a brand new wargaming magazine, 'Wargames Recon'.  Their first issue came out last month and was very well put togther, with interesting articles on a wide variety of scales/periods.  The next issue will be on sale in April, and will have a feature on our very own WW2 range, plus a review on our latest WW1 releases.  Tony Smallwood is the editor, and he sent me the following:

Welcome to Wargames Recon, a new magazine that will essentially focus on reviewing any products likely to be found being pressed into service on the gaming table, or perhaps lingering sad and unpainted on the dusty side of the work bench.  Although of course we hope to inspire and encourage over the months to minimise the build up of all those unpainted armies and unassembled scenery, we also hope to take an enthusiastic approach to what’s out there, and so you can expect to find reviews written by gamers of varying experience and expertise.  This team of writers have been briefed to assemble, pull apart and generally run a fine toothcomb over all those goodies out there to enable you, the reader, to feel like you have opened the packaging yourself.
Add to this varying articles covering what gamers are playing, what rules and figures they are using and some sideways glances at other less obvious gaming topics.  We feel we have put together a magazine that we ourselves would like to read, and we hope you find something of interest in there too.

So if you're looking for some new reading material, have a wander over and have a look at their site:  http://www.wargamesrecon.co.uk/

I hope they go into small figs, I love WI but they're clearly biased towards Warlord/Perry/Victrix 28 mm and FOW.  Nothing wrong with that, but I'd like more info about mass battles.

Good stuff, let us know what you think, I know they're looking for any feedback on the mag.

A good first issue. Some typos, but then I can't type that well! This issue seems to have centred itself largely on reviewing 28mm plastics, which is useful if you are heading that way. I am tending to go smaller 15mm and below, but there are some lovely miniatures on offer. Issue 2 is promising Future War Commander in one of the articles. They also what us guys to provide some input, so if you want a vote get on the bus.

I noticed the typo's as well, it could probably do with another proof-read, but apart from that I thought it was good.  That trench system they covered was excellent.  The second issue will have a review of our WW1/2 stuff.

Ah, nice to see smaller scales getting in on the act. Now we need something 2mm from Nik Harwood to make an appearance.

Hehe upon reading this I thought "hey where's my copy" and then I realised I forgot to check the mailbox this morning and look: my copy arrived in the mail today - all the way to Belgiumland.  Checking it out as I type  8)

I'm not a reviewer, of course, and I am reading diagonally for now, this mag is gonna reside near the toilet for many more months being read to shreds  :-X

Front page: I see a lot of 28mm, the likes of victrix, warlord, foundry, all excellent of course, but already covered quite well in the other mag I read.  I was hoping for a closer look on smaller scales, a more in depth look at rulesets, still looking for a really good article on basing conventions in any mag, for that matter.  The Republic to Empire seems to cater, it says that the rules are quite scalable, more reading required though.

I like the Showcase review - Romans in 28 mm from various makers.  Excellent and good sized pictures too.

Funny: they have a series of pics, all with the same caption: Pike & Shotte Royalist Infantry, and what you see is a lizard-man, a blacksmith, a halfling archer, a germanic warrior, some skeletons, and skellie cavalry.  If only Prince Rupert had known...  ;D

The final article looks brilliant, just going on the pics here, about a bloke 'Frank' that seems to mod and scratchbuild all kinds of weird contraptions including a magnificent patchwork orc zeppelin.  Playing a greenskin army myself I was quite charmed by that.

So first impression is good enough to order issue #2 and look where they're heading, whether they manage to offer content that is complementary my current mags, a bit more on small scales would definitely help in that regard.

This is not a review, I didn't read everything yet, but just a first impression.
Anyway, it's fantasy, so I'm happy to find an article about fantasy that is not about Warhammer.
