Round about 1982 a man was pointed out to me whose grandfather had fought at Waterloo. He looked about 70 so let's say born 1912. If his father was 60 when he was born then that gets us back to 1852. Add another 60 you're back to 1792 and easily possible to have been at Waterloo. Thomas Hardy tells a story of his childhood of knowing someone who had a memory from a grandparent of seeing a man in plate armour on his way to Edge Hill.
