Super Glue - any difference in cheap or branded?

I am interested in others experience of superglue and different brands. It can vary a huge amount in cost from the multipacks in the pound shops to specialist superglues at £5 or more for a pot.

I use a lot of superglue and normally buy the multipacks from the pound shop.  Quite often the lid will get stuck on and I have to throw it away half used, but as its only cost me about 15p its not really an issue.

I did try the bigger pots from the model shop but they also suffered from the tube getting blocked or the top getting stuck on, resulting in throwing away an expensive pot.

Do any members of the forum have tips for stopping the tops getting blocked or found the expensive stuff justifies the cost - is there any real difference?

I use the small tubes 'cos I don't do that much gluing.

Bigger tubes always seemed to get fouled up.

Zap-a-gap is usually brilliant, this last bottle has just jammed up completely!  :'(
But then my last pound shop purchase was good too...

I only use Loctite superglue.

Either the normal nozzle type. Or the brush applicator type.

Have tried cheaper superglue in the past, but none were a success.

Only trouble I have with Loctite is that after heavy use (a lot of gluing) either the nozzle gets dried superglue around the rim (which I break off, once dry, with pliers) or the glue turns solid inside the brush-type bottle after so many months of first opening. I still, do, only buy Loctite superglue, however.

Wilko is the cheapest supplier of Loctite superglue I have found. Then Sainsburys.

I only ever use 'Zap' ultra thin.....(In wee bottles)
But I almost certainly use an awful lot more...and far more often, than the majority of the forum.

I've barely had to throw any away.

After trying cheaper stuff of various types and brands, Loctite is the best I've found. I use the liquid and gel and buy both in six packs.
Pricey, yes, but I now only have to glue something once. I often use the liquid for quickset then the gel around seams (particularly in figure modifications).

I use Loctite Super Glue Power flex.  It's a gel, so doesn't try to escape during application.

I use 'brush on superglue' from ASDA.

A 5g bottle doesn't last long enough with me to clog up. I use it for figures, vehicles, terrain and buildings, especially MDF buildings.

I sometimes use it in conjunction with Bostik All Purpose Clear glue when glueing two irregularly shaped pieces. The Bostik fills the gap and the superglue holds it firm while it dries. Comes out super tough when completely dry.
My Ego forbids a signature.

Bodvoc

Magma bond super glue, works brilliantly, very quick, strong bond, comes in little bottles from Boyes, next to the Vallejo paints.

By "wee", I hope you mean "small".

How do you stop the thin little nozzle from blocking up?

No he does actually mean "Wee" bottles.  After Eons of inhaling green stuff and Cyanoacrylates fumes he now literally "wees" superglue. This can be a little difficult as if he does not "shake" properly he gets stuck to the inside of his Y fronts.  It does however save him a fortune when gluing figure together.

I am sure if you asked him nicely FSN he would send you a sample to try! :)

Not the best use of phrase on this Forum, but I understand what you mean !
