A fantastic array.  You do wonder what GW were thinking when they cancelled those ranges.

Zulu War British

Got these chaps based up this evening

This gives me 4 units of infantry for TMWWBKs along with a gatling gun, and a heliograph team. The heliograph has no in game rules, but its cool. So this gives me a good force of European Regulars.

Now need to get a few more Zulus done.

Looks very good. Why not enter those above in the wargames army category.

Might do that - I had been thinking of entering my fishmen army, but when I separated out the pendraken from non-pendraken figures, what was left was a bit small to be an army. Though these chaps may not number many more.

Made some progress with the sheets of MDF shown on p28

Cut most of them up into rough ovals / circles to act as bases for loose terrain, such as trees and rocks, and possibly to act as rough ground on their own. Add some flock and grit to the darker ones, still have the lighter desert ones to do.

I would like to add a few more 3d elements to them, such as small bits of clump foliage as bushes, and tufts etc. But I can see two potential problems with this,

1) storage - I was planning just to pile these up in a box, but if they have sticky up bits, they probably need to be stored in a way that stops them squashing each other, which suggests on their edges, with some spacers.
2) in game the 3d bits will get in the way of bases of troops, and to a lesser degree in the way of the terrain pieces.

But I think adding 3d stuff will make the bases look better. Too much gaming stuff is flat.

I just received 12 hard foam baseplates by ziterdes.

I already have some and they work really great. Just paint and flock. Bit high for 10mm, but they sink I the fleece throw a bit.

I made some 3d stuff as well, but put it on very thin steel bases, so I can add whatever i want to the plates without getting in the way of movement or storage.

Also forgot to mention I keep 3 bags of loose lichen to add to the table here and there, to "break up" the surface.

For 10 mm vlliages and towns I have some bases with attached hedges and walls, but not too much because storage is indeed a bit harder.

I've got a couple of the Total Battle Miniatures village bases, and these have hedges and walls cast into them - but they are a latex type material so fairly flexible.

I might just go with the random scatter of bits of lichen or clump foliage. I also like the idea of doing some small sub bases of stuff - might do this for rocky areas, as currently I just used some pieces of stones, which work OK, but I think would look better based up.

Yes I think rocks and such look better when based up and flocked. Otherwise they just look like they are sitting on top of the terrain instead of being part of the terrain.

I must admit a fully made and fixed terrain base looks better, but having the flexibility to represent whatever terrain feature you want by mxing smaller bases of 'stuff' on the larger area far outweighs that (for me personally). It also means only one stack of area bases to store, and the trees/rocks/rubble/shrub/whatever you want bases stored in a tub/box in the cupboard  :D

28mm British Airborne

Something a bit different today - some Warlord 28mm British Airborne, I've been building these figures this week, and today had a chance to start colouring them in.

Got the main colours done, and half-way through the brown camo on the smocks. Then they need a good strong wash to tone them down!

I'm quite surprised how quickly these have painted up. Which is good as this is less than half the total force.
