To Base or not to Base, that is the question.

Hi

Do people tend to put a base on their WWII vehicles and AFV's?

(Apologies if this has come up before).

Only have a limited number (not my area) but on bases.
Provides a place to put a bit of information, reduces
the amount of direct handling, and gives a uniform point from which
to measure distances.

Based figures alongside unbased vehicles look weird to me so I base them both.

Besides it lets me do little dioramas from time to time.

As d_Guy says it also give somewhere to put info and measure from.

ronan

I don't.

( I don't like the look when they're on roads ..)

I second d_Guy &  Ithoriel's comments :)

But understand Ronan's road issue but most of my vehicles spend most of their time moving cross county :-\

Basing vehicles also allows you to add magnabase or other material for transporting, if that's an issue.
I usually just score the underside of the mdf bases and have my boxes lined with felt or something. It stops them sliding about but may need to be careful over speed bumps. No disasters yet.
If scoring isn't good enough I sometimes pva glue a bit of sawdust to the underside.
Sadly no longer with us - RIP (2018)

I do because it keeps the height of the vehicle relative to the height of the based infantry and in the storage tray, the bases stop the vehicles coming into contact with each other.

fsn

I didn't, but now I do.

Basically 'cos of what Norm said.

I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

Make two bases, but don't attach the model: one each for on and off-road use.  If you plan on using the vehicle in different terrains, you could even make multiple off-road bases  ;)
(I know, even though it's fantasy  :o  ;)  )

I don't base, except for things like motorcycles.

This is a marmite issue - you won't get consensus just poles.  :D

I base because my OCD likes the uniformity when packing away.

Others would burn me for it.
