This is what I did over the Easter weekend. Some later Normans for the Stephen/Matilda war. I used your technique and found it very useful. I'm still learning but I'm quite pleased with the results. Still need some trimming and base marking.

I'm doing this on a small scale. I've divided the figures into 6. These six "lots" I have organised as four forces - yellow, blue, black and red - with black and red being twice as big as yellow and blue. This means I can vary the forces easily enough: 1:1 (yellow&black vs red&blue) 2:1 (red vs the rest) or  5:1 (blue vs the rest).

Good try but you really need to use a shorter static grass or a hair clipper.

They look pretty good, trim the bits hanging over the base edges. The bridge looks really really good..
You wouldn t think they were done by the same guy who used cut up cereal boxes for bases a couple of years ago  Excellent progress

White over black is a very cool trick. I used it intuitively on the first miniatures I ever bought (Vespero's Vendetta for Warhammer). It gave them instant shading and made their bright red cloaks stand out a lot better.
