I do like the beefy units. Now, get cracking on the alternate command sans pikes ;)

Yep, they do look good with the 3 bases and 40 figures - but they take some painting to get there!

The alternate command can wait.

Next...

King James' Foot Guard

These guys will be in red (you might have spotted that!) with blue cuffs and waistcoats.
As a royal unit they will have a fair bit of gold lace, including hat trim.

A very striking red, Forbes....
I like that lots !

fred.

Been away for a few days, so no painting.

But had quite a bit of time this afternoon and evening, so have made decent progress with King James' II Foot Guard

Most of the main colours blocked in now.

Next up, white neck cloths, assorted browns for hair and shoes, oily steel for metal work on weapons. Some tidying up on the red. Officers' sashes in dark reddish purple. Then the fiddly bits of blue hat bands, and yellow hat lace.

Need to work out what to do with the grenadiers' caps too.

Very nice Forbes.
Grenadiers I put bronze squiggles in mine, IR (as Latin doesn't have a J)?

Good idea - I'll give that a go

Got the next 3 units prepped and sprayed today

A unit of cavalry wielding pistols, another grey clad matchlock regiment, and a levy regiment with a mix 50% matchlocks, 50% pole arms (they might get a couple of pikes thrown in too) these guys will be in civilian clothes so a mix of browns and greens will predominate.

King James' Foot Guard

Most of the painting done on these chaps now, other than the hat lace (not looking forward to that in yellow).

Plus gold details, and probably some highlighting of the blue.

I also seem to have manage to loose a pike  >:(

White first, then yellow, it will stand out better on the hat trim

They clearly had some dazzling techniques for dyeing cloth in Anne's days!

that sounds tricky, I can see small bits of white appearing on the edges of the yellow. Might try the GW dark yellow base coat rather than white, then any missed bits will just look like shadow.

Smaller figures, brighter colours.

Even though this is one of my deeper reds it has come out quite vivid over the white.

King James' Foot Guard

Got these chaps finished off and based over the weekend

They are quite vivid, but I quite like that!

Also flocked the bases of Regiment Meloniere

I've been working through the various units involved in the Battle of the Boyne, particularly the combat on the river, and have put together a bit of a spreadsheet, to work out whats what, and what I have and what I need. So a little (well not so little) order will be heading off to Pendraken towers soon.

And finally...

Finished the basing on these guys, who were painted ages ago, and for some reason had missed out on the final bits of basing
